Character Sketch: Alastor
The hero of my story will be nothing like Superman. He is an intelligent, wealthy, and powerful figure with an intimate knowledge of New York City’s social, political and economic channels. He has everything he could ever want, but is still plagued by an unrelenting boredom. Nothing is capable of giving him the thrill and excitement he so desperately longs for. While trying to amuse himself, he develops a “game” that allows him to alter people’s lives, which become the beginning of Alastor Dreams. He offers individuals who have no where else to turn, an opportunity to achieve thier wildest desires. But in accordance with the rules of our capitalistic society, the endless spirals of profit and loss, nothing can be gained for free. By participating in the game, you also take on the risk of facing a nightmare beyond proportions if you should lose. This ambiguous moral character therefore becomes a perfect representation of today’s skepticism towards heros- do they actually exist and if so, can they really help save this depraved world?
Alastor is not his real name, but one he develops as the game’s master. We are unsure of his identity although he must be a person with great power and authority. In the first few opening episodes to the drama, we only hear his voice in the background and see shadowy reflections of his face.
Anyway, this is all I have so far on Alastor. More on the origins and reason behind his name later.
